Created by Satava Art Glass Studio in Chico, California. This moon jelly shifts from amber to bright teal.
Richard Satava is well known for his Moon Jellyfish, inspired by a visit to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Encountering jellyfish in a setting much like viewing art in a gallery sparked three years of experimenting to perfect their transluscent colors. A jellyfish sculpture starts with clear glass. Colored glass is trailed over the clear to form tentacles, followed by colored frit for the dome's underskirt. Dome color is dropped on top and shaped before finally being covered in clear glass.
This piece measures at approximately 5" in diameter.
